Deeparaya Family Get-together

It was such a relief that finally the event was over. The hard work by the committee members and several members turned out to be a success. Attended by about 120 adults and chidren, finally commenced at 3 : 30 P. M. instead of 2:30 P.M. as scheduled.

The Embassy staff which comprised of the Consul Anne Louis and twenty others got lost along the way. It was good because the food arrived also about the same time. Otherwise, it would have been very embarassing. I believe, God does things for a reason, that was why the embassy staff went around like a merry- go-round.

Overall, it was a tremendous success as everyone had lots of fun and the food, as claimed by many was good. It compensated the late arrival.

Liza, the emcee did a very good job, with a bit of jokes here and there. Joey and his friends performed a beautiful rendition of the Hari Raya songs, much to the delight of the crowd. Infact, the people asked for more and more, which they obliged with two more songs. Everyone thought they sang like a pro. Well young men some day, you will get spotted, keep singing.

The people who enjoyed most, were the children. Most of them went home with something in their hands. Thanks to Tony Tan and Virgie Lim, for their generosity. Thank you too, to Zabeth and Leila, they made things happen.

Managed to recruit five new members and raised a few hundred, two hundred eighty to be exact towards next month activity, which is a visit to the childrens ward at the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang.

Though the event lasted till seven in the evening, the committee stayed back to tidy the place. Must not forget to thank my dearest husband, who together with Fariz, set up and dismantled the sound system. Dear husband, had to reconnect the system where it belonged, at home. Thank you dear, for your patience, support and hard work.

Finally reached home at 8:30 P.M. exhausted and hungry . Glad and contented, knowing fully well another beautiful afternoon for most people.

Must end by saying thank you to everyone, the working committee as well as the people who attended the function, without you the afternoon event was not as beautiful as all of you.

Following are some of the photos taken during the event, in chronological order - from beginning to end :

The decorated hall at Sri Hartamas - far end is Arlene,
who prepared wonderful tasting food to satisfy
both the Malaysian and Filipino taste buds.

More on Master of Games

Last night, Auntie Zabeth called me at 10.15p.m to set our meeting at 8p.m tonight. Her strange but do-able request was served for dinner. Yup - she had asked me to tell mom to prepare "puki-puki" for dinner. Before your eyes pop out from its socket, give me a moment to explain what puki-puki is (don't let your dirty mind run wild).

Puki-puki is a filipino dish, made of smashed grilled eggplant, sauteed with garlic, tomatoes and fish sauce, and finish it off with beaten eggs. In its true sense, puki-puki is best eaten with your hands, ensuring that you mix rice with it . I was late for dinner today, and by the time, I reached home, Auntie Zabeth, Auntie Ruby (who had just arrived from Alor Setar) , mom and Emil were already half way through their meals. Fariz and I went straight for the rice and busy mixing it well with puki-puki. argh...... I was so into puki-puki that I totally forgot to snap a photo of this mouth-watering dish.

Photo 1 (below)
: Zabeth and Leilanie looking at selected needles to be used for the game; Needles and Thread, for adults, and it can be pretty hard if one is visually-challenged (do you see that stack of toilet tissue rolls..... hee hee hee).

Earlier, today, I had spoken to Michelle who was earlier on assigned to ensure that gifts for all the games correspond with the number of games and winners which we are planning for the Raya Get-Gather. Michelle called me again at around 7.30p.m today to confirm the number of gifts and monies which will be allocated for the winners of our games. Thank you, Michelle for your help. You're very thoughtful and kind.

Photo 1 (right) : Zabeth and Leilanie packing 80-plus poked straws for the Straw Threading game, which is planned for young children.

Anyway, immediately after dinner, we got down to real work. With all the props which Auntie Zabeth bought from Mydin, we decided to pack the props in separate bags according to each games. This will make it easier on the day of the function when we have over 100 people wanting to play either one of our 12 games.

For example, Twist & List - the bag contains 2 pads of papers, 3 dozens of pencils, the "choice of words" for the game, and a dictionary.

In another bag, we have packed 4 packs of balloon, a bag of rubber bands for the One-Legged Balloon game, and so it goes, for the remaining 10 games.

Oh ya, we've even got 2 dozens of toilet paper roll, for Wrap the Mummy game.

I just know that we will all have so much fun............ 2 more days to go before the big day!
