It has always been a tradition for MALFIL club to celebrate Christmas every year. Members get-together with their families and party the way we do it back in Philippines... Filipino food, music, dances, games, exchange gifts and loads of fun...

A WELCOME note from Datin Neva Suryani (club's current President) and a moving message from H.E. Victoriano Lecaros (Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia).

THE SUMPTUOUS and scrumptious Filipino dishes that was served included lumpiang sariwa, macaroni salad, palabok, paella, chicken hamonado, arroz caldo, tagalong bbq, brazo de mercedez, ginataan to name a few. The puto and pandesal were quite popular. There was even a separate buffet for children which served the famous spaghetti among other kids' friendly food.

THE PERFORMANCES were rendered by children of mixed descendants e.g. Malaysian and Filipino... Jingle Bells on violin, Santa dance and Waka-waka dance.

THE GAMES had everyone participated.. the children, youth, men and women. Even the Embassy staff were coaxed to dance to earn a prize.

THE PARTY was not complete without exchange gifts, Santa, line dancing and birthday cake for December celebrants.

First Meeting with New President, Datin Neva

The newly elected President, Datin Neva called the first meeting after AGM 2010 on 5th Dec at her own residence. The agenda was mainly the Christmas Party as they have exactly 14 days of preparation.

Annual General Meeting 2010

The club recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last 21st November 2010 (Sunday) at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur with the following agenda.

1. To receive and adopt the Minutes for last year’s AGM;

2. To receive and adopt the Statement of Accounts for previous year;

3. To elect the members of the Executive Committee;

4. And other matters.

Members started arriving at 1:30 PM. Registered, greeted each other, exchanged light conversations and took photos.

The meeting started at 3:00 PM after having a plate from the good spread of buffet. Then President Maria Carmencita Anonuevo (middle) presided the meeting while then Secretary Myra Esperanza (left) and then Vice President Datin Neva Suryani (right) looked on.

As Myra called out the attendance, then Auditor Eden Alanie Bacera double checked the audited Financial Report, and then Treasurer verified the subcription payment during the AGM.

Annual General Meeting 2009

The Annual General Meeting 2009 was held on 15th August 2009 at the CIBO Italian Restaurant @ Holiday Villa Subang.
Treasurer Fariz, Secretary Myra and President Menchie (with her daughter Yani), greeting members at the entrance.

The event started at 3.00pm, with the members enjoying the spread of filipino delicacies ranging from Chicken Adobo, Lumpia Sariwang, Enpinada, and many more, and desserts such as cendol, chocolate ice cream, and cakes of many types.

Kids were also seen enjoying the chicken pie.

The meeting then started with a short and sweet welcoming speech from Vice President Datin Neva Suryani. Then, Secretary Myra presented us with the AGM Minutes of Meeting 2008.
President Maria, then, presented the Annual Report, guiding us through all the events which were carried out from July 2008 to July 2009.
V.President Datin Neva, listenining instensely to President Menchie, while Secretary Myra, and Auditor Alanie, look on.

Last but not least, Treasurer Fariz Abdullah presented the accounts for the year ending July 2009.

Then, the election of Treasurer, Secretary and a new set of committee members were carried out.

The President and Vice President post will continue to be held by Maria Carmencita and Datin Neva, respectively.

The election of Treasurer and Secretary, which was won without contest, are held by Fariz Abdullah and Myra Esperanza, respectively. In addition, Leenah Racutan was elected as Assistant Secretary.

Hawaiian Aloha Charity Tea Dance 2009

After months of preparation by the committed and hardworking committee members over many planning meetings; under the firm and dedicated leadership of President Menchie, the Hawaiaan Aloha Charity Tea Dance unveiled itself in its most spectacular way...... with full (vibrant) colors and everyone was dressed to the true theme of ALOHA......

The event took place at Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 5th July 2009. More than 200 people attended this function, and celebrated the event with games, performances, dancing, singing and lucky draw raffles and such.

The event kicked off with a welcoming speech from Madam President Menchie; who thanked those who had taken the time to attend this function and at the same time.... donate to a good cause.

The Ambassodor of the Philippines to Malaysia, HE Victoriano M. Lecaros and his beautiful wife, graced the event.On top of that, the representatives of the KL Ladies Circle also supported the event, with the presence of Princess Dr. Becky Legardo, her husband, and their friends.The volcanic cake dons the event marking MALFIL Club's 27th Anniversary......The program started by a performance by the 3rd generation of the MALFIL Club members......
And followed by the performance of the 3 beautiful MALFIL Angels, doing their hula-hula.....

Everyone were seen in full spirit and colors................ enjoying the food, the entertainment, great friends, great time. What a sight to behold.

Even the children were dressed for the occasion, and equally had their share of fun-filled afternoon....... and danced.While some looked on ..... and enjoyed the show.....
Happy faces.... were seen through out the event...........
And more happy faces, when names were called for lucky draw winners.....The finale was a tribute to our beloved Michael Jackson...... with the crowd (with lyrics in their hands) singing their hearts out to two songs, "You are not alone" and "Heal the world".
May Michael Jackson rest in peace.

Trip to Beryl's and Port Dickson 2009

What a trip this was ...... whole bus load of us ..... started off our journey at 7.30am from Shah Alam..... and from there.... we did our next stop at Sunway Pryramid to fetch Arlene Diego who cooked us not just breakfast..... but a sumptuous spread of tea-yum-yums at PD too.

On from there.... we made one more stop at Bukit Jalil to fecth another group..... and.... off we left for Bery's Chocolate Factory in Seri Kembangan. The arrangements to visit the factory was made courtesy of Emma Chin.... (thank you, Emma).

President menchie calling on her daughter, Yanni (in pink) while Jamilah looks on...... and a whole bunch of us.... trailing..... them..... to get on the bus. A comfortable bus, indeed.

Liza is snapping some shots..... before she embarked on the bus. We reached Beryl's at about 10am (after nasi lemak / fried mee hoom breakfast in the bus). Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos in the factory..... however, we had quite an educational and fun tour of the factory .... seeing and learning the history of chocolates, how it is processed, how it is molded, and wrapped and packed and delivered to our stores.

And so..... the frenzy chocolate shopping begins......................... from diabetic chocolates, to specialty chocolates, to almonds, raisins, Brazilians, hazels, with dark, milk, chocolate milk chocolates........... and all kinds of chocolates you can think of..........

Then, off we drove to Port Dickson................... where we stopped to have lunch at a chinese restaurant........... a delicious spread of 10-course lunch......... Thank you to Jamilah for making the arrangement with her PD contacts.

And once we were fed to the brim...... we adjourned to Capt Mohd Nor & Jamilah's condo in PD...... and being the typical filipinas/filipinos we are................. while the kids hit the pool....... the parents (those with no small kids ... haa haa) ............... sang their hearts out and dance the afternoon away................

And ...... all good things will come to an end...... and so..... by 6.30pm.... we all packed up, loaded the bus..... and off we went....... back home.

Valentines Day & CNY Celebration 2009

A beautiful wonderful event was held at the premise of Capt Mohd Nor and Jamilah Abdullah .... for the Valentines' Day & CNY Celebration 2009.

The day started with careful and detailed preparation to ensure that the venue felt like a lovey dovey place...... as we were expecting a whole lot of lovey dovey couples........

Maryam, our artistic member was so kind to prep up the place with red candles (with the help from Emillio), cup cakes, and roses....... and Lina, Leilanie and Liza and her kids..... cut heart-shaped papers to hang on every corner of the house.

The result of this all.......................... a heaven made on earth!

The Christmas Party was held at Capt Mohd Nor & Jamilah house.......

All dressed in red...... children were showered with gifts..... by Santa Claus a.k.a Emillio and Santa Rina a.k.a Cerlita. They played games organised by Airish and Prabu; and Dr. Rose and Ladyana entertained us with songs and christmas carols.

Surprise, surprise..... we also celebrated the Founding President's birthday, which felt on Dec 1st. Happy Birthday, Founding President Jamilah.

As usual, we had loads of food, fun and games!

The celebration was a blast.......... held at Restaurant Puteri in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, it was attended by almost 100 people. As usual, loads of food were served, ranging from the famous rendang, mee curry, soto, roti canai, dhalca, and huge spread of sweets, cakes and fruits.

And once food was served...... the fun... begun....... with dancing!!!!!!!!! in Baju Kurung / Kebaya / Melayu.... we rambled...... yeh!

Dance Worshop

Boy! did we have loads of fun!!!!!

The session,which was held at the home of Capt. Mohd Nor and Jamilah, begun at 3pm, and as usual, we started our session with FOOD.

Once we were filled to the brim, and Gerald was ready to guide us through the steps..........
there was no turning back!

We were taught how to cha-cha-cha, and how to do the twist, also the Ramba, Samba, a little of Tango and also Jive and Swing! By the time, we ended the session, some 7 hours later, we definitely lost almost 5 kilos!

Among those who hit the dance floor were President Maria, V. President Datin Neva, Ladyana, Dr. Rose, Leena, Datin Hazel, Fariz (who quit half way.........), Leilanie, Cerlita and Ben (who stood by the corner wacthing his beautiful wife swayed across the room), and also 4 of Leena's friends from the Philipines.

The dance session took a short break for Amy, the voice instructor, to recap with us what we've learnt 2 weeks ago. Once that way done............. we continued on with Gerard and the dance floor was smoking................... again.

A Letter from our Mr. MALFIL

Hello Everyone (Malfil Club members)

I would like to convey my gratitude of appreciation for the full support on the last event Mr. & Ms. FWRC. It’s a pleasure for me to represent our club, which I’m proud to be known as MALFIL. Although I am only 15yrs old, I don’t feel intimidated, instead I welcome the challenge. I value the experience.

I have a lot of fun and learned to be more confident with myself though I lost my sense when it came to Question & Answer. “Which do you choose Love or money & Why?.

My closer encounters with FRWC personnel and members are amazing and challenging. I respect the harmony and commitments for their effort.

Although I didn’t get the title of Mr. FWRC because of tickets selling (Charity percentage) *tak cukup duit lah*(hahahaha) but it’s a great exposure for me and I’m very proud to say I bag- subsidiary titles- Mr. Talent which I showed Monobo Dance from Dabawenyos (Ethno). Mr. Friendship, Best in Casual Wear & Best in Formal Wear.

Again thank you so much for the full support… Mabuhay MalFil !!!!

Singing Workshop

The singing workshop was held at our President house.

We decided to start the session with food...... haa haa.

Amy, our singing instructor taught us how to breathe and hold our breath.
First, we were asked to take a deep breath.......... and hold it for 2 counts, and exhale..... with a loud HUH! The purpose of doing so, is to warm-up our diaphragms, and so as we could sing from it, and not from our nose or throat. Then, it was 4 counts, 6 counts, 8 counts, 10 counts and even 12 counts.

On top of that, we were also told NOT laugh, though, we really felt the need to do so, as we were all so excited and happy with our new found "talents".

Among those who tried their hands (or rather vocals) were President Maria, V. President Datin Neva, Ladyana and her daugther Alana. Leena, Prabu, Fariz, Leilanie, Emillio and Datin Hazel were also eager students who were happy to let their vocals fly across the room.

The experience................. singing can make you sweat!

I'm Prabu Brandon Selvan, 15 years old. I’m studying at SMK USJ 12 (TWEALVEANS)-

THE SAFEST SCHOOL IN MALAYSIA.

I love to play guitar, dance (hip-hop), and listening music. My favorite sports are Squash, basketball & surfing. I’ve been playing squash since I was 7 years old.

In 10 years time, I’ll be 25 and hope I’ll be a professional Electrical Engineer to carry on my dad’s footstep.

Nevertheless, Malaysian teenagers should be educated about sex. Knowledge is POWER. Countless youths have succumbed to ignorance, naivety and stupidity.

Our AGM 2008/2008 was held on 19th July 2008 at the KGNS. It was a successful function whereby we see the Team for 2006/2007 passing the baton to the newly elected Team 2008/2009.

Our outgoing President Jamilah gave us a heartwarming speech, and congratulated the committee members and those who helped with the 25th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner for successfully achieving the highest ever contribution collected and made a profit of more than RM18,000. Then, our secretary, Myra presented MALFIL CLUB's activities which showed us a list of more than 10 activiities done throughout 2007/2008. Our outgoing Treasurer, Maria, then, presented the acccounts for year 2007/2008.

Dear Members and Friends,

Warm greetings from the Kelab Malaysian-Filipino ( Malfil Club) Malaysia.

The 25^th Anniversary Charity Gala Dinner on the 17^th May 2008, at The Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur was again another successful event for the Club. It saw a gathering of two hundred seventy people to celebrate this joyous occasion. Five Thousand Ringgit was donated to The Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped (SSMH), Selangor and Federal Territories. The evening was filled with entertainments and prizes, most of the people who attended the event went home with something in their hands and with fun memories worth remembering for a very long time. The attendees then enjoyed a seven course Chinese dinner while being entertained with songs, dances and comedy.

Thank you, to our most hard working and dedicated committee members for sacrificing their precious time. Job well done. CONGRATULATIONS! And to the sponsors and donors, my warmest gratitude.

This year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Malfil Club will be held on the 19^th July 2008, at the Bilik Seminar 1, Kelab Golf Negara Subang, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The AGM will receive and adopt our Annual Reports, Accounts, and to elect the new Office Bearers for the term 2008 – 2009. Registration starts at 1:30 PM. As tea will be provided, kindly RSVP to Myra at 0163194801 before 12^th July 2008.

My sincere thanks, to the outgoing committee members for their tremendous efforts and support during the last two years in office. And to their spouses, thank you, as well.

The committee members and their families were treated to Korean Bugolgi, all you can eat at Seoul Bugolgi Restaurant, Plaza Pantai. This treat is timely as committee members and their families had worked so very hard, giving their time and effort and commitment throughout the past few months, especially in organising the MALFIL Club Charity Gala Dinner 2008, which was held on the 17th May 2008 at the Best Western Seri Pacific Hotel, KL, and the Philippines Independence Day Carnival which was held at the grounds of the Philippines Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on the 8th June 2008.

The committee members arrived at the restaurant at noon and the makan-makan session started almost immediately after as members were hungry and tempted over what was being served. Since it is all-you-can-eat and "self-service", we started our food quest from the food bar, piled food onto our plates and brought it back to our tables to cook them in the hotpots. It's a combination of steam-boat and grilling our food to perfection. yummy!

The post-mortem meeting convened immediately after the makan-makan session, chaired by the President, Madam Jamilah Abdullah. Among the matters discussed were the Charity Gala Dinner held on 17th May 2008 and the Independence Day Carnival on 8th June 2008. The meeting also discussed and planned for the upcoming AGM 2008-2009.

Philippine Independence Day

Today is the official celebration of the Philippine Independence Day which was held at the grounds of the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on 9th June 2008 at 8.am. The Flag Raising ceremony was led by the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E Victoriano M. Lecaros, surrounded by his embassy staff.

The day started with the raising of the Philippine flag and its national anthem. H.E Victoriano M. Lecaros, then, welcomed the embassy staff and all its guests to this special occasion, and later, read out the message from the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

MALFIL Club was invited to witness the Flag Raising ceremony which was represented by our President, Madam Jamilah Abdullah, and committee members, Datin Neva Suriyani Omar and Fariz Abdullah.

At the end of the ceremony, the guests gathered in-door for a morning breakfast with H.E Victoriano M. Lecaros, feasted with a typical Filipino-style breakfast.

Philippine Independence Day Carnival

MALFIL Club set up a booth to raise some fund during the Philipines Independant Day - Carnival Day which was held at the Philippines Embassy. The event was officiated by the wife of the Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, Mrs. Lecaros and Consult Anne Loius.

As early as 9.30 a.m, we gathered at the grounds of the Philippines Embassy to set up our booth. The members and some with their families came in full force to support this event. Among those who came to lend a helping hand were, the President, Mila and her husband, Capt Mohd Nor; our Treasurer, Menchie, our secretary, Myra and her 2 boys, Micheal and Daniel, Lena and her 3 boys, Prabu, Pooven (who has the sweetest smiles), Dharan Iranius; Lanie with her songbird daughter, Danica; Marie; Faridah and her granddaughter, Jasmin, Fariz & Leilanie and their son, Emillio; Emi and her two children, Aishah and Amir, and many others. Among the many things which the club put up for sales were the delicious Turon, some handicrafts and Coca-cola drinks and mineral water.

Finally..... the night we've all been waiting for had arrived. The goodie-bags were filled to the brim with little gifts and savouries for our wonderful guests.

The committee members who works hard throughout the 6 months of preparation, and worked even harder during the final lap..... made it all happened. For it was the dedication and commitment of the organizing committee, under the leadership of the President, Jamilah and V.President, Grace, that made the event a BLAST !

While dinner was being served - a sumptuous 6-course chinese dinner, the guests were entertained by our 2 wonderful MCs, Maria and Lady Ana, and flanked by Stephen Fernando. The event, the food, the fun, the smiles on our faces, the great performers, especially, Badri Ibrahim, who charmed all the ladies in the ballroom and amazed the men with his vocals and persona; Danica who serenaded the guests with her sweet voice; JR who made us laugh with his rendition of Endless Love, Steven and Villy who fascinated us with their cha-cha, ramba and samba; Duta Budaya who gave us a colourful dance performance and Stephen Fernando who made us laugh throughout the night with his comedy gigs.

The hundreds of guests who were dressed to the nines, bought more Raffles tickets during the event, in full support towards this charitable cause. Princess Dr. Becky Leogardo and Mr. CY Chin pledged their monies towards this charitable event as they each, successfully bid for an oil painting.

Final Checks - Gala Dinner 2008

On the 6th of May, MALFIL Club, represented by President Jamilah, Datin Neva and Leilanie were called upon to meet the Minister of Tourism, Datuk Seri Azalina. We were to meet at the Parliment building....... it was the first for all of us. Interesting enough as we caught glimpses of many other ministers and politicians.

Datuk Seri Azalina apologised to us as she cannot attend our planned function but had promised to send a representative.

The Friday after that, the committee members held at meeting at Menchie's home, where she pampered us with her home-cooked food, such as fish curry, beef stew, mix vegetables, minced beef, chicken adobo, and loads of tidbits. yum yum yummy.

The purpose of this final meeting, a week before our big event on 17th May was to do our final guests count, updates on sales of tickets, raffle tickets, performances and all the others final checks.

The meeting ended almost midnight....... but it was worth it as we managed to iron out a whole lot of issues and of course, we were filled to the brim with the wonderful Zack-Menchie-Yanni hospitality and wonderfully delicious good food.

The committee members once again..... met............ to plan and organise............ this time, at Liza's house. Things are looking good...... tickets are being sold.... though we wish we could sell more..... donations are pouring in from the corporate sectors, and individuals, though we wish it could pour in more, we have a goodie bag prepared for our guests.... that kind of look exciting...... though we wish we could put more things in the bag.

Among the corporate sectors who has been kind to our cause and supported our event are Air Asia with their generous donation towards the GRAND PRIZE lucky draw :

The Ballroom dance duo will be showing off their skills with Rumba and Cha Cha.

Danish Airish, our very own song bird, daughter to Lanie, our MALFIL Club member, will be singing 2 songs. Danish Airish has been singing since she was 5 and today, at the age of 15, she has performed in various functions and will be captivating us with her sweet and sultry voice.

JR de Guzman, will be tickling us with his humourous and funny performance, telling us jokes while rendering us 2-spiced up songs.

Fernando, the well-acclaimed MC-cum-comedian, who is a sight you see at most corporate functions will be entertaining us throughout the night, with his jokes, his singing and his charm.

Fiesta at UNITAR

Malfil Club took up a booth at the UNITAR 10th Anniversary Fiesta on the 12th and 13th April 2008. The intention was to introduce some Filipino delicacies and share our Filipino culture. Though the crowd was kind of scarce and sales were not as well as expected..... those who came to our booth were fascinated with the list of food we offered and were amazed of how good it tasted.

Another thing which caught the organiser's attention was the spirit of camaraderies which were clearly depicted with the army-force of members who came to join hands and helped to make the booth sales a success.

Among the delicacies sold were puki-puki, chicken adobo, alroz caldo, pandisal, sutanhoon, lache' flan, fruit salad, macaroni and chicken salad and the best selling item, TURON.

Turon was such a hit that those who set eyes on it while it was hot in the basket were skeptical of this popia-like delicacy. Most would only buy 2 pieces, for a start........... but by 2pm, people started flocking to our booth to buy more and more turons. By the second day, turons were the biggest hit among all booths. Word of mouth spread like fire and people came by the dozens, and they bought up to RM10 worth of turons (RM0.50 each). Infact, Maryam had to buy more bananas; Liza, Emillio and Leilanie had to walk to the nearby Giant to buy more popia wraps. Thank you to Lanie for introducing Turon to Malaysia!!!!!

As part of introducing our Filipino culture, Lina was all dressed up like a true Filipina lady, with Grace giving her a helping hand with the dress.

On top of that, in between selling and yacking and laughing, some members took the time to compete in some of the competitions organised by UNITAR. Maryam and Emillio took part in the land bowl challenge, while little Leongs took part in the coloring competition. Maryam surprised everyone when she hit a strike and won 1st place !!!!! The little Leongs also took home some prizes for the colouring contest. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Then, Malaysia's 1st Astronaut made an appearance at UNITAR. He officiated the opening of the Fiesta. Leilanie was crazily taking his photos and even got a hand-wave reply from Dr. Shaikh Muszaphar Shukor, while Emillio managed a group photo with Dr. Shaikh.

At the end of the 2nd day............. after all that heat and sun and turons................. we packed up, cleaned up and headed home. What a weekend!

The planning for the D&D is on

This time around, we decided to have our home meeting at VP Grace's home.
Unlike most meetings..... this particular one was indeed a splendid one.
It was a potluck session, and intended for dinner..... and so.... a splendid dinner, we had.

We had food ranging from Sausages and Vege from Leong&Myra's kitchen, Beef Pepper from Fariz&Leilanie's kitchen, Prawn Sambal from President Mila's kitchen, Egg Omellete and salad from VP Grace's kitchen, Lemon cheese cake from Maryam's kitchen, a chocolate temptation cake from Secret Recipe. For those who were not able to attend, you missed some real good food and wonderful companions. On this day, we also celebrate Leilanie's birthday, which fell the week before, on the 1st of March.

Once we were filled to the brim, a little breathing time.... and it was time to get down to real business...... The main purpose of this meeting was to plan for the upcoming Charity Gala Dinner and Dance, which is scheduled to be held on the 17th April at the Best Western Premier, Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur.

Among the many things planned for this special occasion, we have lined up entertain ranging from :

1) A Performance by our up-and-coming local artist, Badri Ibrahim, who had won 2nd place in the World Karaoke Competition in 2006 and the 1st runner up for the LG MyStarz TV3 competition

2) Balroom Dance Perfomance

3) Cultural Dance (Malay, Chinese, Indian and Filipino)

4) Stand-Up Comedian (really funny)

We have also planned for loads of gifts for Lucky Draw and Raffles draw.
Door gifts for guests are also being planned for.

As of now, we are still very actively seeking for sponsorship and assistance from you.

Deeparaya Family Get-together

The Deeparaya Family Get-together was held with a blast on the 4th November 2007 at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort. The event which started at 2pm attracted many members from near and far.

Welcoming guests at the reception table : L-R : Leilanie, Faridah, Liza, Myra and Joey.

The President started off her welcoming speech by wishing everyone a Happy Hari Raya and Deepavali, and as usual, Menchie the MC made the event lively and fun.

The show for the day started off with the performance by the home-grown Malfil Wonders, led by 3 beautiful mommas, Norliza, Arleen and Leilanie. On strings........... Emillio, Prabu, Joey played the guitars, and percussion by Sharif and Darren. The band was tutored by Chris, a Filipino, who plays and teaches various instruments and a vocal coach, too. Among the songs which we sung/played were, That Thing You Do, Achy Breaky Heart, Pangako Sayo, Dendang Perantau, Selamat Hari Raya, Pinos Ako and various others.

An array of delicious food were served, mainly those synonymous with Raya and Deepavali celebrations, such as rendang, lemang, mee kari, tosai, dhilli and chicken curry, assorted cakes, cookies and fruits.

Wan Huzaini, the dance instructor, led the party with several Malay dances which took both men and women onto the dancing floor....... and catching their breaths, thereafter.

Message from the President

It’s been five months since I took over as President of the MALFIL Club and I could say that I am lucky to have a team of officers who are committed to the Club. We have already lined up our activities (at least until the next AGM). These activities are focused on FFEC (Fitness, Fun, Education and Charity). We already had two sessions of dance and singing lessons and, oh boy, we really did have lots of fun. We hope the rest can join us in the next one.

We also had the DEEPARAYA Gathering on the 2nd of November at Seri Puteri Restaurant and we were very delighted with the turnout. Our favorite Stand-up Comic Stephen Fernando came because he considers himself part of the MALFIL Family.

This year, we have a mission to fulfill, that is, to encourage the inactive members to be come back to the fold so we can be a one bigger happy family again. We hope we can achieve an increase in active membership by 20%.

To be able to keep up with the MALFIL happenings, please inform Myra, our Club Secretary, your yahoo email address so she can invite you to our e-group. If you do not have a yahoo email address, apply for one. We do not want you to miss Fariz’ crazy jokes and sometimes relevant info.

Before I end, I would like to thank the Editor-in-Chief Leilanie for her efforts to put up this newsletter. Despite her busy schedule pursuing her Doctorate Degree, she found time to guide our new and very young editors Prabu and Airish to produce this finished product. Prabu and Airish, congratulations on your first assignment. (Actually, Airish has been bugging me for this prez message with sms and phone calls for a week! Sorry to keep you waiting. Your Tita was very busy last week). This is part of your training as future leaders of the Club. My sincere thanks to our contributors, Cerlita, Ben and Zinndra. Keep those articles coming.

Family Day : Kalumpang Resort

We are organising a Family Day at Kalumpang Resort in Tanjung Malim, Perak in the month of August. This MALFIL CLUB FAMILY DAY trip will be filled with games, tele-match, swimming, loads of food and FUN. Malfil Club will be chartering a bus (or two) for this trip, so do bring your family and join us for this fun&game activity.

The Kalumpang Resort has 16 chalets, some on the banks of the river. It also has dormitories and camping sites. 109th Independence Day

Malfil Club attends the 109th Independence Day celebration, Breakfast at the Philippines Embassy.

The day started off with raising the Filipino flag and a speech from the Ambassador, HE Victoriano M. Lecaros. He, then, read the message from the President of the Philippines.

After some photography session, the guests were all invited to have breakfast........... with a huge delicious spread of Bangus, Eggs, Garlic Fried Rice, Beef, Cheese Cake, Mangosteen, Papaya, Watermelon and juices and coffee and tea.

Visit to the Hospital

Malfil Club made a visit to the Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang on 20th January 2007 at 3p.m.

This is one of the many charitable activities which the club had planned for the year 2006/2007.

It started with packing of gifts and food items at the residence of the President Mila, the night before the visit. Among those who came to help were Zabeth, Rose, Marie, Menchie, Faridah, Ladyana, Fariz & Leilanie, Brian & Liza and some others. What were packed in the Goody Bags were 1kg Milo can, biscuits, crackers and candies; and also play-toys for the children's playground.

In total, we loaded more than 70 Goody Bags and more than 5 bags of toys. We were warmly greeted by the Matron in-charged at the front lobby of the hospital. With more than 3 stretchers, we lined up the Goody Bags onto it and strolled our way to 3 different children's ward.

This has certainly been a memorable and touching experienced for all of us....... we hear statements like, "the child is so ill and fragile but he was smiling when he saw us coming with the bag"; "pity the mother who has to be by her ailing daughter, she herself looked so tired"; "look at the smiles on their faces". .... Priceless!

Christmas Party

The Christmas party went on pretty fine and we all had fun.

Other than the huge display of food, food and more food, the members were entertained by the Carolling group. Hat was passed around to collect donation for the Joy Foundation in the Philippines, and a handsome RM650 was collected, thanks to the generosity of the members.

On top of that, children received their Christmas presents and were also entertained by the Santa Clause aka the Clown. The Santa Clause aka Clown also organized and played various games with the children.

As it was Rambutan season at the President's house, we were all feasted with fresh, juicy and sweet red & yellow rambutans. Simply ask Grace, the Vice President, she would tell you how much she enjoyed the hairy gifts from the garden......... yum yum.

The evening went on till late evening, where some members stayed back to sing their hearts out, karaokeing till past 10p.m. The wonderful thing about this is, while the parents were singing and dancing, the children were entertained by Joey, Fariz, Rizman and Brian, with displays of fireworks. bang ! bang ! bang !
